Did you know that your dog’s position when sleeping says many things about him?

This post is also available in: Español

Remember the tail. Even before having a dog, we’re sure you’ve heard it more than once. If he moves it from a side to another, that means that the dog is happy; if the tail is between his legs he could be sad or even worse, angry.

The body language is a good way of communication between human beings, and in fact, a great way of relations for all the animal species in this world. Our dogs also talk to us when sleeping. If you take a look at their sleeping positions you can find out interesting details that affect their health or their state of mind.

On a side

That’s the most common position in dogs. It reveals a confident mood and happiness.

Fetal position

That’s how they best get protected by cold temperatures… But they can also be advicing about some kind of fear. In any case, it’s a position that many dogs have inherited from wolfs, so don’t you panic.

Belly against the ground

Sometimes, because of high temperatures, or after a physic effort, some dogs end up sleeping with their belly agains the ground. Their legs can be stretched or not. Despite the fresh feeling that they obtain, experts say that the worse thing of this position is that it is an inconvenient for a complete and deep rest.

On their back

This position is also in relation with the search of some freshness feeling… and with an absolut trust. A dog just adopts this vulnerable position if he feels happy, safe and calmed.

Back to back

If you sleep with your dog in the bed or in the sofa sure he sticks to you with his back. Congratulations, you’re part of his pack. That’s how they feel it and that’s how they perceive you.

Of course, you need to take into account that these previous information is general stuff. There’s a lot more positions that dogs can adopt to go sleep. If your dog rathers a position more than another and you perceive that he has a good rest, don’t you worry about anything.
